About Our Classes
Kids Classes
At Cattle Dog Jiu Jitsu we aim to help children feel balanced physically and mentally, build confidence, and treat others with respect and compassion. These classes will teach kids the fundamentals of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. It will foster body awareness, flexibility, mental fortitude, and discipline. These classes offer kids an outlet to express themselves physically and emotionally in a fair and controlled manner. It will give them skills to defend themself and empower their confidence.
Currently, these classes are split into two different age ranges. Eventually, the program will split into three age ranges once enrollment allows for it.
Pups - Kids Class
Kids 3-7 years of age are welcome in this class although not all 3-year-olds will be advanced enough to participate. This class lays the groundwork for body awareness as well as discipline. Two of the most important elements to progression in the martial art of Jiu Jitsu. This class helps kids become comfortable with close physical contact with others. A large component of this class centered around fun games that incorporate body movement and motor skills imperative for life not just Jiu Jitsu progression. Our goal for the pups is to help kids develop muscle memory to help them react to situations where there is no time for thought. For example how to fall correctly, not posting the hand but rather break falling.
Heelers - Kids Class
This class builds off of the pups class but can also stand alone so kids that did not participate in the pups class should not be afraid to join. This class will focus on more detailed instruction. It too will incorporate a lot of body awareness movements but will have more time for rolling and situationally rolling. We will put kids in very specific situations and give them tools to make the correct decisions to gain the upper hand. We will prepare students for self-defense. This will be the core of our curriculum. We want to empower kids to not become victims but rather confidant contributors to our community.
Adult Classes
These classes are open to all participants 18 and older unless a teen is at an appropriate level. These classes will focus on fundamentals and philosophies applicable to self-defense. We are a competitive school and will be traveling to competitions as a team but competing is not required. We will practice situational and live sparring.
Adult Combatives
This class will allow students to safely employ striking practice. This is very important to create a complete self-defense system that will keep you safe in real-world fighting situations. Students will be very closely monitored to make sure striking never exceeds 50%, and will always employ safety equipment.
Adult From Standing
This class is offered once a week and will focus on taking the fight from standing to the ground. We will practice entrances to takedowns and systems to implement takedowns. Most physical altercations will start standing, so having confidence in your feet is essential. This is also very crucial in competition, as matches start from standing and 2 points are awarded for takedowns.
Open Mat
This class is purely sparring. This gives students the opportunity to implement the skills they have learned in class. Open mat is great cardio training and is essential for students wishing to compete.
All classes will involve drilling as a modality for warming up and developing muscle memory.
All of these classes will elevate physical fitness and cardiovascular performance.
